# SMS

> Text messages sent from a purchased or ported number

SMS is a one-way or two-way text channel, typically used for short
notifications or call follow-ups rather than open-ended conversation.

## Campaigns

To send a templated SMS to many contacts at once — e.g. following up on
answered vs. unanswered calls — use an
[SMS Campaign](/docs/features/campaigns/sms) instead of sending one at a time.
